The Coolest Shirts To Wear This Summer

The weather has finally taken a turn for the better and that can only mean one thing, summer is officially on its way. To make sure you are suitably prepared and looking your best, we have compiled a shortlist of key shirts and polo’s that are a must to have in your wardrobe. They are varied, stylish and will ensure you are well prepared in time for when the heat really starts to descend or you head off to a holiday destination of your choice.

Cuban Collar Shirt

The Cuban collar shirt, also known as a camp collared shirt is an item you will be seeing a lot of over the warmer months, on holiday and one you should certainly be seen in as well. There are a lot of cool options out there at the minute, from funky patterns of palm trees and exotic birds, to simple block colours of red and blue all encapsulating that classic 80’s Miami vibe. With this in mind I would approach it by trying a few different options on and seeing what suits you best. I tend to favour something simple, a nice dark blue and a cracking example would be the below from River Island priced at £20.00. It’s highly versatile and will go well with some swim shorts and sundowners poolside, or in the evening with a pair of nice slim chinos.

Vertical Stripes

Vertical stripes are something that is featuring a lot at the minute on a variety of outfits. Suits to polo’s and shorts you name it, there is stripes. Thick or thin the best thing about having them vertical is it gives a much more flattering, taller, slimmer appearance for us gents wearing them, something I’m sure we can all agree is a benefit after some beers in the sun. A top pick from me would be this little knitted piece from Zara coming in at £25.99. It has a button down bomber style collar and comes in some cracking, punchy colours such as yellow and green that really elevates those stripes.

Military Green

Military green is a trend that has been going around for a couple of seasons now and is currently still as popular as ever. Inspired by the likes of the M-65 field jacket, it has evolved into lighter cotton items, linen and short sleeve options. Brands that are doing this very well at the moment are River Island, Topman and Zara which is where my next pick is from. Priced at £49.99 this over shirt is ideal for layering over a fresh white t-shirt just when the sun begins to go down at the end of the day. Pair with a nice lighter pair of denim jeans and you’ve nailed it.

Real men wear pink as the saying goes. From luxury brands such as Berluti and Dunhill, to high street favourites like Next and Burton, the colour pink is everywhere. Similar to that of the previously mentioned Cuban collar shirt, it has an aura of the 80’s about it. Light, fresh pastel tones are what you can expect to find in the shops. My pick of the bunch is the below number from Burton. Coming in at £20.00 this long sleeve oxford shirt is another highly versatile piece that you can thrown on poolside when you are heading to lunch, or in the evening with a pair of dark navy tailored shorts.

Tracksuit Sports Style

The tracksuit trend is certainly off and running if you excuse the pun. Taking inspiration from the fitness industry and classic feels of the 70’s and 90’s, it is the definition of comfortable street wear style. You can expect to see colours of blues, reds and yellows with cracking little details such as a zip fronts, exactly like the below example from Zara. Priced at £22.99 this is a piece that is a little different, but is certain to help you stand out from the crowd and elevate your outfit this summer.

Once you have added a couple of these key summer shirts to your wardrobe, it’s almost important you are smelling super fresh before you head out. With this in mind our Monroe Cologne No.4 at £60.00 for 100ml is an ideal accompaniment. The summer fresh notes of bergamot, mandarin and lime will stay with you long into the evening.
